The Voices of American Muslim Moms
My goal to resurrect this blog is a humble one…for the sake of Allah (God) and Him Alone.
I feel there is a dire need to share a realistic voice of all our lovely sisters in Islam here in America, young and old…and since we’re raising a house of little Muslimahs, hence the name “American Muslim Mom”.
Briefly speaking 2 main points past colleague Saleemah shared in the below interview, that I passionately agree with:
- This is an opportune time to share our voices as American Muslim Women. People are curious, listening, and willing to have an open discussion. We are NOT oppressive nor what the main-stream media portrays us to be!
- The BEST opportunities have come to her (and I) through volunteerism! Masha’Allah…my very best, and I pray for you as well!Life in America: Muslim American Women Speak w/ special guest Saleemah Abdul-Ghafur podcast interview on “The American Muslim Blog Talk Radio”
Special guest is author of Living Islam Out Loud: American Muslim Women Speak, Saleema Abdul-Ghafur. We will cover women in Islam, especially in the context of American life.
Disclaimer: I have not read Saleemah’s book yet, nor do I agree with all that she discusses on the show or in the book…but, her 2 strong points I believe above gives me reason to recommend listening to the show.
As a reminder, here’s where you can read about our beginning: The American Muslim Mom Blog.
But, a year later, with the chaos of a mommy’s life getting in my way from continuing on that mission, Alhumdulilah (Praise be to God), I found my voice again! I wholeheartedly agree that there is a Great Need Right Now for my voice and All Muslim Moms living in America (or Americans living abroad)!
My family and I live according to the Qur’an and the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). We ask forgiveness every day when we are led astray and ask for His continued mercy and forgiveness.
With the guidance and blessings of Allah (May He be Glorified) and Him Alone, I believe the only way to blend the perfection of our faith with the many freedoms and opportunities here in America, we must raise our children by
Not assimilating them (as we must maintain our unique identities), Not isolating them (as we must not shelter or ostracize them); but by always striving to be emulated.
After all, if we live solely by the Qur’an and Sunnah, our piety, peace and happiness will shine through. Insha’Allah (God willing) we will reach our most desired reward of jennah (heaven) with as many as of our brothers and sisters as possible. Ya Rabb (Oh, Lord).
You’ll often hear me say (or read) that Islam is a way of life led in moderation, and insha’Allah any and all my words will serve as examples to leading this life as true servants to Allah (May He be Glorified).
I ask for your active participation. So, please comment, share, make recommendations, or offer to contribute! Just join the discussion, and help make our Muslim Motherly voices heard here in America!
Since this is a humble personal family-friendly blog, any and all spammers will be caught (inshaAllah), and political commentators will be moderated. Healthy discussion is encouraged; but I reserve the right to delete, stop or ban anything deemed inappropriate or disrespectful without warning.
“The American Muslim Radio Show” is an interactive, talk-radio show that focuses on the lives and issues concerning American Muslims. Hosts Robert Salaam of “American Muslim” blog, and Alia Sajid explore American Muslim issues and perspectives concerning religion, politics, and current events.
