Book Adventure recommendation
Recommended by a member of one homeschool group:
Book adventure has been a great tool for
us for several years!! It’s similiar to accelerated reader in that kids read
books and then take online tests, but they then earn points and can cash them in
for great items such as books, games, etc. As a teacher, you can set up your
class and then be able to monitor their scores. I highly recommend it!!! http://www.bookadventure.org/

Free board game for parents and educators.
Part of the Too Smart to Start program, this colorful
board game was
developed to help parents and young people aged 9 to
13 talk about
underage alcohol use, why it’s not smart, and how to
prevent it.
Goals for the game include increasing the number of
conversations
about the harm of underage alcohol use and increasing
the percentage
of children and adults who view underage alcohol use
as harmful. The
game can be played with two to six players, but works
best when both
youth and adults play.

For several years now, I have been using a
great resource for literture called Cyberguides. They
are done by the San Diego County Office of Education. Teachers have developed

to several popular pieces of children’s literature. They are divided by age
level and they are great. I love them and my kids love them. Check them
out.

Passed on from a dear sister…JAK!
Stores with discounts offered to homeschoolers.
Barnes & Noble (From card: 20% off publisher’s list price on
hardcover or paperback titles for use in the K-12 classroom. Show
excusal letter to receive card. Expires each year (in Oct.))
Kinko’s
Jo-Ann’s
Media Play
Book Warehouse (This is the book outlet store in Monroe, they offer
15% off of any book.)
Holcomb’s (They will give you the teacher’s card, which used to give
you a discount, but now only entitles you to special coupons. They
had a rebate-type punch card, but I’m not still if they still do.)
WaldenBooks
Office Depot (“Star teacher” program available to homeschoolers. Card is good for 5% off store items and 15% off copy services, and an invitation to annual teacher appreciation breakfast in August, where they have give-aways and 10% off.)
Staples (Ask at the store for their educator card, then you
send in the application. Card is good for a $10 gift certificate in the mail when you have spent $100. You can also apply online, I have heard.)
Please share some of your “finds” too!
