Outsourcing SEO a lesson learned from my kid blogger

As you know, my girls are professional kid bloggers…and totally out of choice. They loved writing, though I always nagged them to improve their skill in it. They were challenged by watching me use 10 fingers and type at record speeds. They were the ones to find cool keyboarding websites to time them, teach them and get them up to speed–literally.

So, how does SEO outsourcing come into play? Well, one of the easiest things to delegate in a blogger’s life is link building tactics that required good organizational skills, attention to detail, patience for repetitive work yet appreciation for this sometimes menial, mindless work…so, I thought!

Surprisingly, they loved any work I can delegate to them, computer time, Internet time, fun stuff they knew only big-people did. Remember, they’ve been blogging as early as 5-7 years old. So,  they pleaded for me to give them SEO work…an acronym only kids of bloggers would know: Search Engine Optimization.

They enjoyed be hired (yes, they get paid) and I loved outsourcing SEO since it wasn’t anything I enjoyed or had patience for…and delegation is great for business. It’s good use of my time and theirs…little did I know…

Having just launched and relaunched 3 websites last week, my middle one choose to do the administrative tasks that are always the first thing I delegate and get off of my list. Much to my surprise she figured out a way to speed through the process with much accuracy. She figured out shortcuts, manipulating the number of windows or tabs she had opened, using copy-paste techniques when it was necessary, that were her own convention. It was amazing!

I simply assigned the task in the way I thought was “right”; yet she clearly proved me “wrong”…which I’m totally Okay with.

I had a whole new appreciation for outsourcing SEO! I learned from my 11 year old, that there are some individuals and companies who like the work, find solutions to speed it up and maximize their efforts, even coding ways to make accuracy their “game”.  I never understood why she (or anyone for that matter) enjoyed this kind of work…but, now I totally do. It’s amazing to learn from our little ones–one simple joy of homeschooling.
