How I got interested in the book:
- My younger sister (age 6) picked this book up at the library to read because she loves Barbie books. I was flipping through some pages when I read that Skipper’s best friend was a fashion designer. Since I want to become a fashion designer I wanted to know what the story was about. So, I read the book in about 20 minutes.
Review:
- When Skipper went to school, she was the drummer of a new band. Her friend, Courtney was in a fashion designer class. She made outfits for the band, but they didn’t like them. The band thought about lying to Courtney. Since the band rehearsed in Courtney’s dad’s studio, they thought if they told the truth, Courtney would tell her dad and they wouldn’t have a place to rehearse anymore. So, Skipper began to tell her older sister Barbie about it. Finally, Skipper and the band told Courtney the truth. Together, they all figured out new outfits in time for their first show.
Things I like:
- In the beginning of the book, they have a vocabulary list and pronunciation to help the early reader. In the story, these vocabulary words are also highlighted.
- I liked the before and after pictures of the outfits that were designed.
Recommendations:
I am recommending this book to younger girls because it will teach them not to lie and tell the truth.
Mama’s Remarks:
Please note the following: My hubby and I review, watch over, and discuss vocabulary, pictures, themes and issues in all the stories our girls read. Since our girls know, appreciate and respect that we don’t listen to music, mix with genders as they get older* (middle or high school) and don’t aspire to join a rock band, we have no problem exposing this book to our girls. The pictures are acceptable as well.
*MashaAllah, our girls prefer girl-friends over time with boys now anyways; except for our lifelong friends.
