How to Apply Your Definite Major Purpose to Your Blog’s Success

| January 3, 2011 | Comments (8)

Rather than writing your goals (in blogging) and feeling bummed that they never get accomplished, Sterling (Jeremy Frandsen) at Internet Business Master says “Goals are a waste of time.” And, after reading his post, I cannot agree with him more!

Benefits to having a Definite Major Purpose

As quoted by Jeremy

Your Definite Major Purpose (DMP) represents the central mission of your life right now.  The DMP is the guiding reason for doing everything you do.

…it is the thing that you most desire to do WITH your life.

Once you have your DMP all the decision you make including what goal to set, all the way down to what you will do every single moment of every day, will be VERY easy.

If you align your goals to your DMP you will have an infinite amount of energy and will to actually take ACTION on your goals.

Defining Your Definite Major Purpose or Passion in Life for your Blog

I find Jeremy’s questions to be almost identical to the questions and tasks posed by Kelly in her Stretch Yourself Challenge.

Jeremy:

  • What would I like to dedicate my life to?
  • What is the most important thing I would like to accomplish in your lifetime?
  • What fulfills me about all other things?
  • Why am I here?

Kelly:

  • Spend some time considering your goals & dreams.
  • Write a simple mission statement for your business.
  • Identify three primary points you want to make and be known for.
  • Build this mission statement and primary points into your ‘About’ page.
  • [It's critical to listen to Kelly's audios as she guides you through these steps.]

Ponn’s Goals, Dreams, Dedication to Life

  • My goals and dreams (shared in my About Page) are to be a devout servant of Allah (Muslim) deserving of the highest level in Heaven (furdose). To be an Ideal Muslim Mom, we must live according to the Qur’an and Sunnah and maintain our roles as
    1. A loving, supportive wife and homemaker,
    2. A caring and compassionate educator to our children, and
    3. A wise manager of our wealth (money, properties and belongings).
  • So, basically my priorities, goals, dreams, and mantra are: Marriage, Motherhood and Money! ;-)
  • The journey of life consists of constant education, reflection, and application of what was learned. As humble, mortal human beings, we are bound to make mistakes, yet fortunate to find some helpful lessons and tips along the way.

What are Your Goals, Dreams, Dedication to Life ??

Aligning Your Definite Major Purpose to Your Blog’s Goals

Ponn’s Purposeful Blog Goals and Mission

The humble lessons, tips, reflections, etc. that I have, are what I want to bring to this blog and beyond! ;-)

  • Mission Statement to AmericanMuslimMom.com – To enlighten, educate, and empower moms, especially American Muslim Moms living in America and abroad, to take action .
  • Enlighten = Make understand, or give spiritual (Islamic) insight,
  • Educate =Instruct, train, and teach, and
  • Empower = To give the confidence to do something.

In being very clear in my goals and dreams, I realized that as long as I stay true to Allah (God), and act, speak, write accordingly; I in turn help many people regardless of religion.

I found the past couple of weeks, that my loyal followers, readers, subscribers, friends and family all understand, respect and appreciate that I am Muslim, hey it’s in my title ;-) and that I typically use Islamic terminology or share insights in my daily dealings, and even blogposts.

In doing so, I’m enlightening, educating and empowering moms to action, regardless of religion; although my passion is to attract Muslim moms in America and American Muslim moms abroad.

First, I was bummed that American Muslim moms weren’t commenting or engaging with me online like other moms. Yet, I knew that I was bringing ton of Muslim readers (I’m tagging different links when I’m marketing/networking online to assess the Return On Investment (ROI) of all my efforts).

Then, comments, Facebook likes, tweets, etc. started rolling in more and more each day, alhumdulilah, Praise be to God.

But, I knew this would be an issue, as the majority of my own offline Muslim mommy friends and family are not even online, let alone blogging…so, it’s all about patience, perseverance, and Purposeful action!

What are Your Purposeful Blog Goals and Mission ??

Allowing Your Definite Major Purpose Energize You to Action

When asked about which blog conferences I’d be attending in 2011, and what my blog goals for 2011 in the middle of December, I knew it was time to reevaluate what I really want to achieve with the American Muslim Mom Brand and Business, which just so happen be be primarily this Blog.

Share your plans

So, I shared some of the exciting new changes scheduled to occur. Just by writing this post live for the public to see, I feel accountable to you to make it happen!

Share your progress

I started to chronicle our progress as it turned out to be helpful tips and lessons for others along the way. For example, I finally after years (not just weeks or months) of being asked “How do I make money blogging?”, I dedicated much time and energy to put up this post.

I also didn’t just “read” some advice, I acted upon it. For example now that I have a Blog Calendar & Editorial Calendar plugin, I haven’t missed a day of posts yet, and I have multiple future posts completed & schedule. Just by doing this (okay, and a bunch of other online marketing), I’ve doubled my traffic in less than 2 weeks! (Don’t forget to keep checking back for that post with images & tips…better, yet; subscribe to my RSS feed so you don’t miss it at all. Prefer email subscription? Just click here.)

I wanted to learn more about Blog Conferences, and Sponsorships, so I attended a private chat, learned, and working hard behind the scenes not just on blog conference sponsorships, but many more long-term beneficial partnerships that will benefit the American Muslim Mom community at large.

So, one little goal, turned into actionable tasks.

Purposeful Goals > Actionable Tasks > Charted Progress > Accomplishments!

Because, it’s not the end-point that defines our Accomplishments, It’s the process of sharing, and growing. If we’re aligned with our Definite Major Purpose at all times, every little accomplished task is an achievement worth cheering over, right!?

What are Your Plans? How are You Progressing?

Make “To Do Tasks” and “Milestone Dates” on Your Calendar

Having hired Ummah Designs to work on two of my projects: Total revamp of American Muslim Mom (and another surprise), I was SO impressed with their great project management system.

Here’s the difference between a choosing to get a blog re-design, versus a brand re-vamp. Anyways, I like how we have designated

  • “To Do” Tasks, and
  • “Milestones” posted on calendar as anticipated accomplishment dates.

I also really love the “can do” attitude behind the chose of these words:

  • To Do Tasks (Action-driven) versus Goals (Lead by intentions to act–not necessarily followed-up by action)
  • Milestones stirs up Feelings of Achievement, Happiness, and Pride. So, if you don’t accomplish on time, you feel that you’re almost there–like a baby’s first steps: multiple steps soon he will be walking, BUT
  • Deadlines give you Feelings of Pressure, Anxiety and Fear. So what happens when you don’t finish on time, you feel like you failed, lost…”dead” from exhaustion and disappointment. Can you tell, I don’t like the word “deadline”. ;-)

Now, here’s a totally awesome way to force your it’s-gonna-fall-by-the-wayside-anyways Goals with the it-never-gets-done To Do Lists out of your life right now, right!?

So, What are Your To Do Tasks & Milestone Deadlines?

  2. I love this post! I also am going to try out the editorial plugin and see if it helps organize me. I definitely need help with that in the post department, I get too distracted by other things on the computer. ;)

I am also going to try to follow some of the things you put in you special note, especially:

Find your Passion & Niche, and share Your Expertise with this blogosphere now!

    Thanks so much Jen.

Honestly, the plugin (on WP interface) & the calendar (hard copy to write by hand) together keeps me focused and most of all accountable to posting regularly.

I, too, have many things, projects, issues with the grave ability to distract me; so any little organizational tool is helpful.

As for finding your niche and sharing your expertise–it’s better to be a Expert at something, than a jack of all trades–specialist in nothing. ;-)

I’m here for you, so please let me know where I can help.

another great post! I have an idea that I would like to blog about….I think I am going to start compiling my ideas…loved this post! thank you!

    Ponn Sabra Reply:

Focus on DMP, and you should not be short of any ideas what to write/blog about. Always write down your ideas, it helps make the ‘thinking of ideas’ more concrete because you’re committing to writing and visualizing your thoughts better.
