Bringing Together 2 Great Educational Programs By Winning a Family Contest
Asalaamu Alaykum everyone! May peace be upon you. We’re very excited to share with you our good news! As the title says, we as the Sabra family were able to bring together two great educational programs, Ohanarama and New Havens Reads by winning a family contest!
Each month, the online social-networking site for families, Ohanarama, hosts a contest in which families virtually compete against each other to earn the highest combined score by participating in games and activities online. We won first place, Alhamdulillah. As prizes, we received a Kindle 3G, a $50 Amazon gift card, and a $100-value book donation to an elementary school or literacy program of our choosing.
We chose to give the $100-value book donation to New Haven Reads, a Conneticut-based literacy center that helps children and adults, especially those who are more economically and educationally disadvantaged, have access to free books. Ohanarama with Random House Children’s Books donated 50 Magic Treehouse books, written by author Mary Pope Osbourne, to New Havens Reads. These books are very popular amongst children and are always fun and adventurous.
The Ohanarama Family Contest was really a wonderful experience. Ohanarama is great for us as a family because we are primarily Internet-based and travel very often, so to be able to use this cool, safe, fun, and family-oriented social networking site is really a perfect fit for us.
Leave us a comment below sharing what you think about this unique family contest. Where would you donate the books?
