Heart of Haiti Project – Finding Pratical Art in the Most Unusal Objects
The Macy’s Heart of Haiti Project is designed to support Haitian artisans and their families and communities in the wake of last year’s devastating earthquake, which occurred nearly a year ago. Haitian artisans make extraordinary pieces of art from the most unusual objects, take a look at their work here.
My girls and I particularly like Metal Giftware collection…like how do they cut and mold those materials so beautifully and safely!? We would love to see someone video tape the art being constructed. Equally impressive are the colorful blends in the quilted oven mits and canvas prints. It’s really cool how practical many of these art pieces are too.
“Artisans receive 22 percent of the retail price for each item in the collection. This initiative offers the first sustainable income since the earthquake, enabling artisans to repair homes, pay school fees and feed and clothe their families. With steady income comes better nutrition, improved education and access to healthcare.”
Therefore, every purchase from the Heart of Haiti Project, helps Haiti recover after the devastation of last year’s natural disaster.
