A Secret Revealed

Asalaamu Alaykum! As you may have realized Ponn has been missing from American Muslim Mom for the past couple months. Listening to her debut audio linked above, as well as reading the title of this post, will explain that she has been traveling to the 3 Most Sacred Lands for all Muslims–Mecca, Medina, and Palestine.

I’ve been overseeing American Muslim Mom, at Ponn’s direction, and I’ve been anticipating her motivational stories and lessons learned from her journey. I’m glad that I can finally share this news that’s been a secret for the past few months–that Ponn’s one and only dream of going to Hajj before she dies came true, Alhumdulilah.

Ponn has served as my mentor and adviser in business for many months now. I’ve summarized the knowledge I’ve gained working alongside her in this post from July. I’ve also contributed various posts that Ponn has helped me edit which you can read here. Specifically in my end-of-summer internship post, Ponn not only serves as my mentor and adviser, but also one of my inspirations and friends. I wasn’t sure if we would be working again after the summer, but in the middle of the semester (around October), I received an email and later, a follow-up phone call. As Ponn shared her most incredible good news about Hajj, I was actually faced with a decision to oversee her American Muslim Mom blog network, as well other online businesses–a very daunting task and responsibility. I felt I could take on the challenge and began to scribble down detailed notes of what needed to be done to run the sites. However, I cannot say honestly I was confident about it everyday, because I did run into problems, and on a couple rare occassions, I felt I couldn’t handle it. But, Alhumdulillah, everything worked out, and now I can say that I’m truly blessed to have gained this professional experience and continue to do so.

The fact that Ponn even asked me to do this was flattering, because it displayed her confidence in my abilities–abilities sometimes I forgot I had. I felt only like a business partner for a very short period of time. Instead, our relationship has progressed more towards a sisterhood, with her as my Khalto (Auntie) is Islam.

While it’s easier to just read a post, I recommend everyone to listen to this audio, and if you can’t right now, download it so you can listen later. Ponn’s message from her overseas journey is so extremely heartfelt, genuine, and moving.

American Muslim Mom’s Journey to Our Sacred Lands – Audio Notes

A full shift to the Islamic calendar

Hajj, a life-long goal achieved Insha’Allah

Praying as if it’s our last prayer

Stay in Gaza writing the How to Perform Hajj book

The importance of the Arabic language

Doing everything for the sake of Allah

InshaAllah, God willing, Ponn will pray in the third of the most sacred masajid, Masjid Al-Aqsa in Al-Quds, Jerusalem while on this journey. May all Mu’minyn (true believers) pray in the Sacred Houses of Allah. Ameen.

Please comment below with what you’d like to hear about the holy pilgrimage, Insha’Allah. JazakAllahu Khayr, wa salaamu alaykum.

(Ages are 7, 9 and 10 years old) Please enjoy the show as I share their debut podcast. MashaAllah, God has willed; their natural ease and comfort on air. While I had notes to guide us; they didn’t have any notes. We shared that we’d just have a family discussion, same ones that we often share in halaqas (educational gatherings), and share typical questions and answers whenever people ask us (especially them) on their views of learning Arabic, Qur’an and homeschooling in general. While starting our show with the Qur’an was deep and serious, byPart 2 they totally took over with their surprising excitement and answers. Without a script at hand, you’ll see their ease and love for homeschooling, so we pray you will enjoy their tips and unique perspective; inshaAllah.

To educate

About the role of Arabic and Qur’an during our typical day of homeschooling.

To enlighten

To truly learn, understand, know, contemplate and most importantly act according to the Qur’an and not simply memorize it. We break down the Opening Chapter, Surah al-Fatihah, explain its first ayat and it’s 2 distinct parts.

To empower You to Take Action!

My girls lead the show with their excitement, tips for and perspective of homeschooling compared to public and private school education, examples include how to study the Qur’an, online education, kid blogging at Kid Bloggers Club and much more!

Alhumdulilah rabbil alameen (Praise be to God, the Lord/Master of all things), the past six weeks have been truly exciting time preparing for major changes to occur here at American Muslim Mom. From concept to design (staying focused on tasks and milestones), I am so pleased to share with you the debut show of the American Muslim Mom Podcast.

In today's show I share all the major changes we made to improve our brand to make it more representative of what we've grown to become as the #1 online blog community for American Muslim Moms.

Warning: it's a bit of a slow start--the energizing Ponn you're familiar with started to get more comfortable half-way through the show: so the middle and definitely the ending is something I believe is worth listening to. The truth is, I recorded this well passed 1am at night, for the silence of my home and the hectic days preparing for tomorrow. I joked on our Facebook page, that it took me half the show just to wake myself up.
American Muslim Mom Debut Podcast is a post from: American Muslim Mom Blog

InshaAllah, God willing, my debut show will get you excited about tomorrow’s big Relaunch. We’re going to have a real cool Giveaway Gala for our big Giveaway Day to celebrate our big launch.

Podcast Acknowledgements

MultiMediaVA

It has been an incredibly humbling experience working with Christina Lemmey of MultiMediaVA for helping make my podcast possible. From brainstorming how to find royalty-free nasheed (Islamic songs) or Islamic tunes (which we never found), to having Arabic-pronunciation lessons–Christina has been amazingly patient, professional, creative, upbeat, determined, open-minded, willing and definitely capable of producing our intro, extro and segue in a very Islamically-appropriate way.

There were 2 things that came to us completely by accident as she shared–and I shared that we’d say “Subhanallah/Glory be to God” for the perfection of timing, the perfection of the opportunities that have been destined to happend. This is where I’m so humbled, because I was given the opportunity to share the beauty of Islam so effortlessly like I do each and every day to my Muslim brothers and sisters, in addition to the vast majority of non-Muslims who cross my path daily. Subhanallah!

Do You Want To Try Podcasting?

Now, if you’re a Do-It-Yourselfer, Christina has a free ebook that shares how you can setup a podcast in 1-hour “Easy Podcast Setup”.

It tired my patience, just trying to get the recordings in, timing, script, etc.; that I couldn’t worry about it, so I’d rather delegate and be done with it.

Oh, and Christina even offered video tutorial to get my link on this page–so cool! So, If you are in need of audio or video production or assistance, I highly recommend hiring Christina. And, please tell her I sent you.

My girls

MashaAllah, God has willed, my girls are one two three of my biggest blessings in this life. It has been so much fun to involve them in the development to the American Muslim Mom brand; and as you listen to our debut show and future shows inshaAllah, you’ll hear the joy they feel in honoring us–Moms through their innocent and lovable voices, mashaAllah.

MashaAllah, I must give particular attention to my eldest, 10 year old daughter, who as the one to figure out how to best record our audio file. We tried the phone, cell phone, online directly to our audio program–and Subhanallah, Glory be to Allah, while working on our slideshow video (which is definitely one of our biggest highlights for tomorrow), she was able to record a voice, a movie without voice and a movie with voice over. It was the audio file that Christina was able to use just yesterday, because the quality was the best of all.

I look forward to your honest critique, comments and concerns. Please share what you thought of our new show below, and inshaAllah–please be gentle it’s only our first show. Have a suggestion of a great guest (is it you), or topic you’d like me to focus on; please let me know as well.
