Dotmine Calendar Planner – Review and Giveaway

| March 31, 2011

Dotmine Family_Time_Mine cover

After shipping problems, delays, wrong-orders, I finally received the requested Family_Time.Mine DotMine Calendar and Planner from TimeMine.com Unfortunately, I was not wowed by this planner that was designed by busy moms for busy moms. But, because I desperately need a visual planner to help me organize my vagabond life right now (which is “traveler with no fixed place”) with notes, mail, assignments, deadlines, etc. all over the place I spent the last few days making this planner work for me.

Helpful Tips:

Daily calendar pages. Using my pen as the placeholder for that particular week. Pencil in the spiral.

Create Monthly tabs. The monthly calendars are spaced within the weekly calendars. But, since I organize this in months, I need the months readily available. I know I need something more permanent than my hand-made sticky notes, which once I put in my laptop bags get crumbled up. This should help at least for the next week, and I creased in the corner just in case.

Use a pen as my daily/weekly place holder. I use a pen for appointments and scheduled deadlines I must keep.

Use the spiral as a writing utensil holder. I use a pencil for everything else. Since everything is “temporary” in my crazy busy life.

Use the quarterly calendars as placeholders to the Important Pages. The bottom two pictures demonstrates what I mean.

Using the quarterly calendar as the back as a placeholder for the important contact information, address, phone numbers, iThe closed view of the quarterly pages used as a placeholder for those back Important Pages.

Use calendar stickers sparingly. We’re a big visual family, so I was happy to see they had stickers for doctor, dentist, etc. We’ve been using the family 5-person family wall calendars the past 3 years, so to match wall-calendar with desk-calender was a pleasant surprise. Unfortunately, for moms to design the selection of stickers, I was forced to place into the convenient back pocket another set of stickers (extras over the years) which more pertinent, such as ‘to do’ ‘don’t forget’ ‘school’ and many more ‘doctors’ for a family of five. I found it very odd and unnecessary (having used family calendars for 3-years) to have holiday and so many birthday stickers. While, of course, Muslims we don’t use either, the past 3 family calendars I used didn’t waste stickers on the holidays, because after all it’s a calendar–the holidays are written into the calendar. The stickers are for helpful reminders, and to draw attention to necessary dates and deadlines to be met.
