Daily Du’a for the Busy Muslim Mom #3: A Family Stroll
Nothing is better than fresh, clean, air to relax your body, clear your mind, and enjoy peaceful, cheerful family time. The blessings of walking, strolling arm in arm, hand on stroller and hand to hand is powerful. It’s freeing!
Frustration is alleviated, and focus becomes clear as a sunny day. But, exploring the great outdoors shouldn’t stop on cloudy, rainy, windy, or snowy days. To appreciate the change of weather and allow your bodies to experience the pleasure of Allah’s various precipitations is a great pastime. We love clouds and determining what will come next: light rain, heavy rains, thunderstorms, or even a hurricane is a big joy for me and my family.
Have you ever tried predicting the weather from exploring the day’s clouds? It’s so much fun!
As for some walking tips, check out this post for a little Rhythm and Melody I made up to help my girls remember this fun du’a for rain.
City walking is tons of fun too. Yeah, the air may not be so clean or fresh; but, appreciating family time by exploring the building’s architecture; sharing a Sadaqah-Smile, and meeting new people or stores at every step.
Your smile to your brother is a sadaqah (charitable act) for you. Your commanding the right and forbidding the wrong is a sadaqah. Your guiding a man in the land of misguidance is a sadaqah for you. Your seeing (showing the way) for a man with bad eyesight is a sadaqah for you. Your removing a stone or thorn or bone from the road is a sadaqah for you. Your emptying your bucket of water into your brother’s (empty) bucket is a sadaqah for you. [Tirmidhi]
Make sure to use all five senses conscientiously. It can be equally as freeing as a mountainous hike or a river and valley stroll. So, get your family up and tell them it’s time for a family stroll. Watch the sky above and share these two du’a for when the wind blows:
Oh Allah, I ask You for the good of it and seek refuge in You against its evil.
Oh Allah, I ask You for the good of it, for the good of what it contains, and for the good of what is sent with it. I seek refuge in You from the evil of it, from the evil of what it contains, and from the evil that is sent with it.
We love Family Strolls so much; we’d typically add extended family, friends, or neighbors. Little kids may even take bicycles or riding apparatuses, like my niece and daughter are using as pictured here.
Please share your experiences below. Was this your family’s first stroll? Was it a long time since your last stroll? If it was, did it bring back pleasant memories? Are you determined to make this a regular pastime?
