The Convenience of Portable Solar Power – Don’t You Want One!?
Now, having recently returned from the Middle East, I’ve always been amazed how greener, safer and cheaper renewable energy sources are, particular solar energy! And, it has always rubbed me the wrong way to think that the only reason we don’t have windmills or solar panels in the U.S. is because our consumer-based, lobbyists against using anything but oil! Rather than digress, when I had the opportunity to review Goal Zero’s website, whose tagline proudly states “Portable Solar Power That Works!” I was pleased psyched over-the-top elated that at least the private sector is cashing in on this totally awesome, highly-necessary convenient power source.
Portable Solar Power Going Mainstream
Now, my girls share our first exposure to portable solar backpack panels. They share the perfect timing subhanallah, Glory be to God, of the topic of portable solar panels as Yosemite Sam debuted on The Lonney Tunes Show they just watched with Baba. So, the topic is gaining publicity–making mainstream TV (cartoons nonetheless) and hitting department store shelves.
Homemade Solar Portable Battery Charger
But, my little entrepreneurial inventors know how easy and inexpensive it is to create a solar panel, as they built a solar power generated hand fan last summer. (We found it while unpacking…but can’t seem to find the “safe” place I put it). Anyways, it’s Pretty awesome that they’re able to do that, right?
Portable Solar Panels for Rural *and* Urban Use
My Daddy always comments how our car is filled with wires. We have multiple car jacks to charge literally every portable electronic device you can think of: from our smartphones for our GPS, laptops, netbooks, and a huge array of various camera sizes, camcorders and MP3 players. But, whenever we stray away from the car, stuck in the middle of some big city or big open farm land, it’d really be awesome to have a handy portable solar battery charger, wouldn’t it?
Now, I find it rather interesting how Goal Zero focuses on the great outdoors life. While we live a very natural, outdoorsy life, we’re huge city-folk too!
As a busy homeschooling online business working mama, I can think of dozens of other daily practical-use photos that would appeal to my NYC and Las Vegas family members. According to both sides of our families, we are by-far the biggest natural, green-ish family of them all–yet, we are also by-far the most well-connected, highly-technical, wireless family who chooses to go natural in city-settings too.
Our backpacking experiences throughout Europe and having lived in Gaza during the Intifada (upcoming) and after the war, my side of the family jokes that we made camping look like city-life (with all its conveniences). We were literally “living the most all-natural life” they could ever imagine. Hey, we proudly used and preferred our clay-stone, fire-burning stove over the gas-fuming metal box they called a stove back in Gaza–food smelt and tasted better, and well gas just stinks from all perspectives!
Portable Solar Power City Picture Challenge
So, I challenge Goal Zero and all my followers, what and where can you picture yourself (literally and figuratively) using portable solar panels, battery chargers or generators?
One, can definitely get the “Adventure Kit’ for the city too.
Here’s some of my ideas:
- Backpacking in the city,
- Working on my laptop while the girls are out horseback riding, playing in the backyard, jumping around at the park,
- At an outdoor cafe or ice cream parlor that has wireless of course,
- Oh, at the city zoo, botanical gardens, arts and science museums, etc!
These are just a few ideas, reminding me to of our big summer agenda to explore this new city and state we moved to this month.
Is it obvious how excited I am!? Please share the excitement with me and continue the dialogue below?
