Yes–I believe it is pleasing too. I spent so much time researching colors that has “stickability” and “clickability” and this color scheme ranked the highest. Thank you for your kind words. The site looks great! I like that you have very specific instructions on giveaway entries, including sample tweets and whatnot. One thing- the twitter link in your top banner leads to a “page doesn’t exist” message, so you may want to fix that. I’d most like to win prizes #1, #2, #10 or #12. Someone else could make more use of the other prizes, because I’m not a serious blogger or a mother (yet!).

I appreciate your feedback re: rules, because you’d be surprise how many people don’t even follow the very few rules I lay out. With the exception of today’s contest, I typically have them only answer 1-thing in my comments for an entry and I’ve had dozenS who never follow that 1 rule…go figure.

I like the site but I think the graphics could be better. Like when you go under Travel some of the logos are blurry like Lingo. Also, just some updated graphcs/pictures would be good. I also think the background color is pale maybe a soft green or brighter blue? I like the logo but it looks stark against the white background. Good info on the site.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about the graphics.
1. Regarding the lingo logo being blurry, that’s because you’re looking at the Category, and this is a new feature we didn’t have until yesterday which defaults any image in the blogpost to give a 125X125 button on the screen page. So, if we have a smaller logo, like we do for “lingo” then it’s enlarged into the category list button (you’ll better understand if you look at each individual post). Unfortunately with 424 blogposts over the past 6 years we will not be able to go back into every post to adjust to meet this new image requirement.
However, knowing this, we can in from today forward.
2. Can you please explain what you mean by “updated graphics/pictures”? All are graphics are new or made available the day of the post. I really want to understand this recommendation better. Please share more details.
3. Obviously this is your first time here, because our last design was light greens and brighter blues–very cutesy and fun. However, having spent a LOT of time researching the best colors and designs for chooses the best mix that causes “stickability” how long a person stays on a website and “clickability” how often a person clicks, our color scheme right now is one of the best to date. Look at the Top 3 sites: Google, Yahoo & Facebook. Notice link colors, etc. too.
4. Yes, I agree, we are very pleased with the logo. I agree with it being a bit of lower resolution and not as crisp as in other places. I have our designers working on that, so it won’t blur and look as “stark” as you explain.
It’s critiques like these that make us better serve our community, so I thank you Heather.

Thank you Jeff for your comments. Interesting first view of my site, because what you share needs is exactly what we changed and needed to change in our last design.
Previously I have a magazine-format, and because we’re a very active commenting blog, the homepage was always skewed with TOO much sidebar action, buttons, etc. that we needed to return to the blog 2-column format for the left side of text to meet, and our goal is to exceed the right side: only for individual blogposts.
However, if you look at the homepage you’ll see that the sidebar and content left-side is almost exactly equal in length, with just a tab bit more room to the right, shall we have other features to add, like the “Monthly Specials and Sales” that was a big hit last month, and we just forgot to put up.
Comparably to our last design, we took off a ton of graphics, customized headers, and toned down the mis-matching text and fonts on our sidebar, so this has completely made the sidebar much more user-friendly.
Please know I greatly appreciate you being a first-time visitor and want you to continue to come here, and that we’ll see if there are other tweaks we can make that’ll make your visit more visually pleasing. So, if you have more details to share, after having read my reply, this would greatly help me and my design team very much.

Thanks for sharing that about the commenting, because I have to be logged into my admin panel to reply with my name, I didn’t know we had this new feature–but, I’ve always shared my biggest woes, typically of BLogger and Typepad, is when there’s a great blog post I want to share my feedback, insights or just kudos, and there’s SO many ropes to jump just to make me comment, I get so frustrated and often leave. Then, they wonder why they have little or low comments. So, thanks I appreciate you detailing what you like in our new design!

I love your home and garden part as well. I seen the homemade pizza sauce and would love to make that myself. I will have to try it out. I know it’s an older post but I haven’t ever been on your site till now..will have to come back over.

Oh Amy, I really do hope you come and stay often here. As for the pizza recipe the joke (at least for hubby) is that that particular recipe is nothing like his. The problem of updating the sauce recipe is the 2-3 dozen times he makes his homemade pizza sauce, he changes it every time.
Anyways, we are now homemade pizza experts–and never buy out anymore, because Pizza night is more like Family Pizza day, we spend hours in the kitchen as a family, cutting up fresh veggies, pitting olives and slicing them, etc. etc. It makes such memories and the smells and tastes are ever so wonderful.
I pray you and your family can start making similar memories in your kitchen!

i like the logo, but the twitter/rss/etc links clutter the top bar a bit. they’re important to have prominently, but i think they’d look better in the sidebar instead of on top like that.
i really like ‘trying to stay centered at all times’. that can be so difficult in the blogosphere, and it’s really great to find a blog with that focus.
i’m not a mommy yet, and not an active blogger, so someone else would benefit more from those prizes.

Thanks for your input on our logo & tagline. Regarding the social media buttons, interesting point. I actually asked my designers about this today, for the very reasons you mentioned. Not sure if it’s easily done, but I agree. But, it not, I’m happy with them there too.

love the new logo. my goodness there is a LOT of info on your site. it’s a great resource, i just need to find the time to go into it! i am not sure if there is a way to make it appear like less info, i know that sounds crazy, but the large amount of info can seem a little overwhelming when you are a mom and only only get 5 min at a time on the computer while your kids paint the walls. i can’t wait to check it out more, though! thanks for the resource!

Thank you for your input we love our logo and the resources have been compiling since 2005, so yes–we have a ton of it.
As for your request, in all honesty, this is exactly what I wanted to emphasize was our wealth of content by bringing it back to the 2-column blog format, rather than our previous magazine-format.
Since we have the ‘archives’ tab & ‘search’ option up top, I’d advise you use those 2 resources to guide your journey through all our useful articles–I use the 2 features every day.

In our new design, I agreed to add an image in every single post–which we’ve been doing successfully for the past 2-4 weeks. And, we have our Sunday Showtimes that we’ve been doing since 2009, where we add videos. Along with our sidebar video, and our link to our YouTube channel above.

I think the site looks nice. I appreciate it being tidy, not overwhelming with graphics, too many ads, etc.
While there is a lot to read, I think overall it is very attractive.

I just came across your blog and I’m impressed by how well-written, clear and concise it is. Highly professional, it serves as a real contrast to the all-too-typical “mommy blog.” I very much appreciate the absence of visual clutter, (especially those horrible flashing and blinking graphics) and the lack of text talk and multiple exclamation points.
One recommendation (or perhaps it is a bit of a wish): while I found a tiny bit of information about you on the blog, I’d like to know more about your background, how you became the “American Muslim Mom” blogger, and how your blogging philosophy has developed.

I like your blog design because it is clean and not cluttered. You have a nice logo at the top left which clearly reflects the Muslim theme of the site but isn’t so huge that you can’t see the content on the page.
The only thing I’d suggest is that you look into a plug in like “cute profiles” plugin to float your social media buttons on the side of the blog. I like that because even as you scroll down the post you can still see the social media buttons.
In order I’d like prizes # 1, 4, 2, 13, 10, 12 or 8.

Thank you SO much for your wonderful & supportive feedback. What you shared is exactly what we were trying to achieve, minimalistic, clean, simple, blogging-basics.
As for your suggestion, that’s a great one. My only concern with that plugin is is that I had it cluttering up the content when one is reading–but if I can get it on the right-side, you’re right I have SO much content & tons of comments, that it’s more user-friendly not to have to scroll all the way up top again–or, did you notice, all the social media buttons are in my footer (all the way at the bottom) too.
And, you’re welcome! May this be the beginning of many more comments.
I love the logo with the family & the stars. I also love how your social media buttons are very simple and easy to reach on the top right corner….

And, interesting that you said it “makes for a quick load time”, because we’re working VERY hard behind the scenes since we were ~80% of the fastest sites, and dropped down ~37% slowest. So, I’m so glad to hear you’re loading fast. Which browser are you using? And, you’re welcome–this will definitely be our biggest giveaway contest of the year–in terms of # of prizes. But, Allahu alam (Only God knows), maybe, God willing something more will turn up!

I am not Muslim (nor any organized religion) but strive to teach my children about all religions (especially Islam due to the current hatred towards it that has been permeating our country for the last several years. I have been to your site several times now and find it to be balanced, informative, and well-written.
I am interested in #7,8, and 10 though I would certainly welcome any gift spread my way and would gift it forward if I was not able to use it.
