Being an American Girl (TM) Rocks!
So, this house of chicks may be a little behind the 8-ball…but we were just introduced to American Girl (TM) collection.
The last Sunday of each month at 2pm here at the Barnes & Noble on Monroe Street, they host an American Girls Club, which is a young girls’ reading club.
Each month they discuss the highlighted book, end with some questions and answers, and do a wonderful art and crafts.
Leaning towards early readers, ages 7-10, my girls were fascinated with the “older girls” as they intently listened to the leader. We even watched a couple of them take notes.
As a mother of 3 girls, I was a pure awe watching the beauty of how fascinated these girls were with reading the American Girl (TM) series.
The group leader shared that American Girls (TM) is trying to encourage younger girls (age 3-6) towards their collection through stickers, magazines, etc. to encourage reading their books and start collecting their beautiful porcelian dolls designed for ages 8+.
Grandma gave our 5 year old her first porcelain doll last month, and my uncle gave our 4 year old one as well. They are extra careful and appreciate the dfference between their new dolls and other toys. Even our 2 year old carries and cares for these 2 dolls differently.
Anyways, my girls didn’t feel younger or out of place, and during the crafts the older ones were extremely encouraging.
A couple girls had their dolls and started a scrapbook. They shared their work, insights and excitement.
We talked to all the girls throughout the hour of fun.
We’re hooked, and we want you to be too!

Barnes & Noble has their “Dive into Reading” Summer Reading Program too. Once you read 8 books, share what’s you’re favorite part of the book, you get a free book. You’re aloud to do it twice. On Saturday, we completed our second form, that’s 16 books each, at 48 books in less than 3 weeks. We’ve participated in half a dozen Barnes & Noble other storytimes as well, and enjoyed ourselves immensely!

I’m so psyched. We brought our 6 y.o. neighbor and 6 y.o. homeschool bubby to last Sunday’s American Girls’ Club Pajama Party, and they both assured us they’ll be joining us each month! It was a blast!
