Surah al-Kahf (The Cave). The virtues of reading it every Friday.
For explanations of Surah al-Kahf, when to pray it and how, scroll below the videos.
‘Whoever recites Surah al-Kahf on a Friday, light will shine brightly for him till next Friday’, reports Abu Sa’id (Hakim).
‘Whoever learns and preserves, in heart and practice, the first ten Ayahs
of al-Kahf, he will be protected from al-Dajjal’, reports Abu al-Darda’
(Muslim).
The First 10 Ayahs (Verses) of Surah al-Kahf (The Cave) is beautifully recited, with English translations, in an attractive slideshow here:
The full Surah al-Kahf recited in Mekkah, Saudi Arabia with English translation. It’s beautiful to listen, read along and watch. We watched all 3 videos last week, and insha’allah (God willing) we will make this a regular habit.

This Sirah of Prophet Muhammad PBUH Online for Free
I’ve been bugging hubby lately about finding a good Sirah (Life Stories) of our beloved Prophet Muhammad Peace & Blessings be Upon Him book, because I haven’t been happy with the many I’ve reviewed thusfar.
This is a beautiful free online book “This is Mohammad” (PBUH) from IslamWay.com Multiple languages are available.
Advantages:
- This Sirah book is not too dense to read. All the past Sirah books are written so scholarly that they are very hard to read passed the first page, with no interest to return to that particular book the next day.
- This Sirah is written in simple English.
One Shortcoming/Advantage:
- While some Sections/stories may seem overly simplistic, the book is 175 pages long, so I find that a summary/overall view of each section/story is much more encouraging for my girls and I as we learn new things in every single section/story even though it may be a bit brief in its explanation.
- To make up for this one shortcoming, we’ve been having family discussions to amend to the story by conducting additional research at the same time…so our lessons are very interactive and interesting.
- Again, this is the only Sirah books we’ve returned to day after day, so I see this one shortcoming as one of its biggest advantages.
Please share your suggestions, links or recommendations to other Sirah books online or hard cover in the comments section below.
Insha’allah (God willing) you will appreciate and enjoy this one!
Teaching children how to type and have fun
Thanks Elizabeth for leading my girls and I to a GREAT learn-to-type website!
Dance Mat Typing by BBC!
We tried a few other fun programs years ago (can’t find them now), but none had a “curriculum” like this website! Our 7-year old went through the entire 1st lesson, Home Run, laughing and cheering herself on with her progression…she got carried away on her first day, she mastered all of Lesson 1 and on Lesson 2, Unit 2.
She typed out her first article the past 2 days, and we thought it’s a perfect time to take her typing lessons seriously. Subhanallah (God is Perfect), it is synchronizing perfectly with the completion of her 2nd piano lesson by classical, sight-reading without looking at the keyboard.
This fun online typing course designed specifically for children actually teaches our young to type without looking at the keyboard at all! It’s all geared towards viewing the screen and working with the positions of all 10 figures! It’s truly amazing!
Please give this typing course a try, and report back your experiences below!
TIP: Here’s an online typing test to see how fast and accurate you are typing now. Insha’allah, God willing, we will all get faster and more accurate in due time.
American Muslim Women Hijab Fashion on Today Show 7/15/07
JAK (Jazaha Allahu Khayrun) Jamerican Muslimah for the links!
My girls and I do not agree with tight jeans, showing your curves, or
straying away from the true blessings of having hijab (covering with modesty).
It doesn’t mean to simply cover ones hair, and leave the rest of our bodies out
to “show”, it’s an honor, grace, protection, humility and much more…which CAN be
fashionable at the same time![]()
I Look, I See by Yusuf Islam. Your Mother.
For the CD at $7.99 what a deal! IF you’ve never heard any of Yusuf Islam’s incredible work…click on the image and Preview/Listen to 9 of the songs.
My family’s personal favorite (the first song that our girls memorized verbatim):
# 8: Your Mother!
It’s based on the following hadeeth (sayings of Prophet Muhammad PBUH/Peace & Blessings be Upon Him):
The Prophet Muhammad said, may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him: Your
Heaven lies under the feet of your mother. A man came to the Prophet and said, ‘O
Messenger of God! Who among the people is the most worthy of my good
companionship? The Prophet said: Your mother. The man said, ‘Then who?’ The
Prophet said: Then your mother. The man further asked, ‘Then who?’ The Prophet
said: Then your mother. The man asked again, ‘Then who?’ The Prophet said: Then
your father. (Bukhari, Muslim).
We carried our children in our wombs for 9 months, then gave birth, then raised them…along with our husbands.
Futher emphasized in the Qur’an the need for kindness to our parents (especially mothers):
Your Lord has commanded that you worship none but Him, and that you be kind to
your parents. If one of them or both of them reach old age with you, do not say
to them a word of disrespect, or scold them, but say a generous word to them.
And act humbly to them in mercy, and say, “My Lord, have mercy on them, since
they cared for me when I was small.” (Quran, 17:23-24, see also 31:14, 46:15,
and 29:8)
May Allah guide us all to raise our children righteously, while honoring, respecting and loving our parents, so we may earn the pleasures and rewards to jennah (heaven, the Hereafter). ~ Ameen.
How to Pray Slideshows & Books
Insha’allah khir, God willing, these will help.
- If you are a beginner who needs to learn the basic steps of Prayer in Islam ( with sound – without sound)
- If you want to learn prayers from A to Z including Sunnah actions (with sound – without sound)
My girls are learning from these slideshows, practicing with us (of course) and our multiple children’s how-to books; but this one is the best, cutest, easy-to-follow, easy-to-read (the Arabic letters a big with all the accent marks):
Yes…we have the “My Wudu Book” too…aren’t they adorable? And, affordable?
P.S. I learned how to pray from computerized program very similar to these slideshows that were available online years ago (They’re no longer available). Then, I felt more confident to pray alongside sisters at the masjid and my husband as they critiqued me. I often tell my girls that I mimicked the motions with my laptop in closed-doors until I felt “acceptable” to be around others

Total Lunar Eclipse Tonight – February 20, 2008
Subhanallah (God is Perfect) we just watched an hour-long documentary: “The Sun” on the History Channel last night!
We learned about the Penumbra, Eclipse, the Sun’s creation (Big Blast, then Supernova…), energy, heat, strength, orbits, gravitational pull of all the planets, its predicted death in 5 billion years, and much more.
Alhumdulilah (Praise be to God), at least science “proves” that The Sun as created miraculously as the Big Bang and that there WILL be the end of the Sun, Earth, Galaxy, etc. one day!
(Allah) the Originator of the heavens and earth. When He decides on something, He just says to it, “Be!” and it is. (Surat al-Baqara: 117)
In preparation for the eclipse and to better understand/reiterate our discussions from last night’s show in relation to Islam, we’re reading HarunYahya’s “The Glory of the Heavens (Big Bang) (Sun) (Moon)” right now. We just love his Kid’s Books…don’t you?
Blessed be He who placed constellations in the sky and put a blazing lamp and shining moon among them. (Surat al-Furqan: 61)
Insha’allah khir (God willing with this blessings) we will watch it tonight, will you!?
HarunYahya.com – An Invitation to the Truth
HarunYahya.com – An Invitation to the Truth is an Islamic website we can NOT live without!
This is one of the very few websites I often share with our non-Muslim friends who ask more about Islam, or are interested in learning more.
It’s truly amazing because Harun Yahya, a scientist by trade, takes our religion and dissects it in the most thorough research I’ve ever since, heard or read.
There has never been a single video, slideshow, story, article…that was NOT completely fascinating! Masha’allah, God has willed.
May Allah (God) continue to bless him with this incredible gift, talent, love and passion to research, share and express his sincere peaceful devotion to Him and Him Alone by all his work and efforts. ~ Ameen.
This weekend, we shared another wonderful bed-movie-night watching:
- The Names of Allah
- The Perishing Nations, Part 1
- The Perishing Nations, Part 2
Remember, my dear sister, our girls are 7, 6 and 4…and each mini-movie fascinated each and every one of them!
Then, again…we prefer Documentaries to a Walt Disney flick ANY day!
Truth be told: our favorite channels are PBS, The History Channel, Animal Planet, HGTV (Home & Garden TV) and FoodTV. We’re a very practical and inquisitive family, Masha’allah (God has willed).
As always, please share your kind thoughts below!
P.S. His Truth for Kids website is the #1 site I recommend to all Muslim parents for their children. We conducted our family’s Science Fair project on “Bees & Honey” by his amazingly simplistic and engaging story a couple of years ago.
Bringing Up Children in Islam by M.H.Mukhtaar
A must-have reference book for every single Muslim parent!
Bringing up Children in Islam by M.H. Mukhtaar
I have this by my bed-side and pick up per-topic on a as-needed basis. Its very dense reading, and I haven’t been successful at reading chronologically.
Insha’Allah, I will share excerpts whenever topics of our lives as parents come up.
