Kid Business: Perfect home school lesson
Kid Business: A Perfect Home School Project
When is it too early to start a Kid Business?
What business ideas are available for kids besides lemonade stands, bake sales & garage sales for a kindergartener (or younger)?
Well, the most obvious answers are usually right in front of your nose! Yes! Taa-dah! Turn your kid entrepreneurs to the internet!
Click here to sign-up for FREE Internet Based Kids newsletter. Just for signing up you’ll get a free report entitled, Free Tips & Parent’s Getting Started Guide — for a Low-Cost & Fun Kid’s Internet Business.
Initiated by one of my original online business mentors, Alice Seba, now passed it over to very capable hands of Mila Sidman. Mila already started actively answering questions from eager and skeptical parents.
Alice Seba, on the other hand, is focusing on her forte’ of being an Internet Marketing Sweetie! She’s even debuting a new Long-Term Affiliate Marketing Success Strategy Teleseminar for FREE–this Wednesday. Click here for details.
I believe that if you’re allowing your children to utilize the internet, and moderating their use… then, why not let them earn money at the same time!?
This is why I think it’s critical that you and your children, check out this free seminar because “affiliate marketing” is where our children will be getting their income by hosting a blog or developing a niche-resource-website!
So, here we are–almost a month after our kindergartener got her own email address and first email to help her read…we’re now destined to change the way we do our business = our blogs!
No doubt, my websites and blogs were primarily a marketing tool to catapult my debut book to a best-seller, but my health and the girls’ education totally took me away from my online money-making hobby…
Amazingly, because I created my online presence correctly, I was able to see consistent affiliate marketing checks roll in. No doubt they were not what I’d consider an “income”, each check was much bigger than the 4-quarters weekly allowance our girls presently get.
So, what better way to sharpen my internet/affiliate marketing skills and build my online businesses..then to create a home school lesson?
What better motivation can I ask for–then to work side-by-side with my darling girls!
I highly recommend that each of you to walk side-by-side with us…as we journey to teach our children the magnificent life-lessons in entrepreneurship, such as discipline, hard work, dedication, creativity, investments, etc.
And…I will share my reading, writing, typing lesson sidenotes too…hmm…this should definitely be interesting!

I just called the 800 last year, and this year…customer service has always been spactacular!
Pizza Hut’s pan pizza is our all-time favorite pizza in our house, so the girls look forward to their tiny treat each month = a quarter of our eldest’s personal pan pizza. They give me a quarter just to be fair.
We look forward to spliting halves next year, as we’ll have 2 of them enrolled! See, now that’s a “fraction” lesson even our 2 year old could understand!
Comprehensive Home school data
I believe every home school parent should arm themselves with a copy of this comprehensive home school survey report with extensive data:
Homeschooling Grows Up is the largest research survey to date of adults who were home educated. Over the last decade, researchers, professionals, parents, the media, and many others have asked repeatedly: How do homeschooled students turn out? Can a homeschool graduate get into college or get a job? How do they fit into society? Are they good citizens? Are they happy?
In 2003, HSLDA commissioned Dr. Brian D. Ray, president of the National Home Education Research Institute, to conduct a study to answer these questions. The results of his research demonstrate that homeschoolers are succeeding.

Just if anyone asks…This is a great article entitled, Academic Statistics on Homeschooling. Many studies over the last few years have established the academic excellence of homeschooled children; states in its conclusion:
These statistics point to one conclusion: homeschooling works. Even many of the State Departments of Education, which are generally biased toward the public school system, cannot argue with these facts. Not only does homeschooling work, but it works without the myriad of state controls and accreditation standards imposed on the public schools.

Home school gym class
We’re in our third session of Home School Gym with Sylvania Recreation at Tam-o-shanter on Sylvania Avenue.
For 8-weeks, 2-hours each Friday from 1 – 3pm… the memories, lessons, great gym leaders/teachers, and community of friends… $35 is a huge bargain!
Being our first “official” year of homeschooling, this was the only “real” thing I’ve paid for my kindergartener. And, the Spring session is even $28.
The average classes were ~60 kids, but this session we have a record 110+ kids ages 4.5 years – mid-teens. I can’t take enough video clips or pictures.
The kids have tried everything from indoor to outdoor soccer, kick ball, volleyball, many kinds of tag/relay races/singing & dancing activities, ice skating (this past week), floor hockey, basketball, hoola-hoops, basic calisthenics…you name it…they tried it!
It’s a great weekly networking gathering for home school parents too!
While my little ones can not participate in the classes…from all the standing, walking between field houses, running after one another, I assure you, this time is “physical education” for our whole family.
Interactive Elementary School Story-Time Program
That’s So Elementary at Sanger Branch Library
My girls and I attended twice, and this program is Great!
Again, we were on the young-side, yet all the girls loved it!
The first program was called “Oh Presidents”. There were 2 older kids (between 8-11 years) [only one other family showed up,besides us], and these 2 kids were hams! A trip! We had so much fun, learned so much, and their father and I participated and acted with them.
We had an oval office, our eldest was the President’s aide, the cabinet helped find solutions to their problems, wrote and sealed a proclamation, had a press conference (of course, I had my camera),and as a group we colored our “seal” to the White House.
There’s only ~4 more weeks, but Eric, a playwrite & author, is already setting up his schedule for the Summer Reading Prg.
The second program, Mrs. Joyce “Played with Language”. She read tongue twisters, shared various ethnic folktale, and just all-out an incredibly animated, voice & tone-talented storyteller. We laughed the whole class!
That’s So Elementary (T) February 7 – March 28, 3:45 p.m. Grades K-5 Stories, creative writing, interactive drawing and research opportunities for those pesky reports! Registration is required and begins 1/9/2006. [On-going registration] 419-259-5295

Home school in the news
Both home school articles below are pretty positive in their coverage.
Both show national statistics from 2003 stating that home education in the U.S. to be approximately 1.1 million, while it may be between 1.7 – 2.2million today.
1. ) ‘Unschooling’ lets children pursue their own interests at azCentral.com.
I got through this lenghty article with mixed feelings supporting and denying different parts, but ended with a chuckle for its closing paragraph.
“My schooled friends’ opening question is usually, ‘What grade are you in?’ ” said Riley Brown. “I tell them that I would be in the seventh grade, but it really doesn’t matter. I don’t usually try to explain because they wouldn’t get it if I did.”
Our eldest was asked this question last Sunday by a park ranger, knowing we’re homeschoolers. For the first-time, on her own accord, she said very matter-of-factly, “Kindergarten, but I do first and second grade stuff now.” The gentleman looked at me for an explanation either becuase he was shocked by her response, or was just plain confused.
I answered, “It’s true.”
It really wasn’t worth the explanation…My daughter looked at me with a proud grin and continued along with our tour as if we shared a special little secret. It was a proud moment for both of us
2.) Homeschooling grows quickly in United States in CNN.com Student News.
When I shared this article with my eldest, she knodded adamantly, when I read this paragraph:
“We definitely have a lot more fun than kids who go to school,” Elizabeth said.
I was personally surprised by these facts:
Parents cite many reasons for deciding to opt out of formal education and teach their children at home. In the NCES study, 31 percent said they were concerned about drugs, safety or negative peer pressure in schools; 30 percent wanted to provide religious or moral instruction while 16 percent said they were dissatisfied with academic standards in their local schools.
When asked, our first reason is “convenience” as we are a world-traveling family; second, we believe we can give our children the best education; and third, would be the very important issues above…though not in that order.
Toledo home school music COOP
Toledo HELP (Home Education League of Parents) Music COOP:
We meet every other Wednesday at 1pm to sing circle songs, familar family songs. While the average age is 7 years, we still have a blast!
I thought it’d be hard since the girls can’t read all the lyrics themselves, but they remember all the lyrics more completely and correctly than I do, even days after the class.
We also started to learn the recorder, which is added fun.
We are all so pumped, becuase we scheduled our first “public appearance” at a local nursing home! We’re going to keep our “circle song format”, so we won’t be “performing”…we’re going to share our love to sing together with our elderly neighbors.
Both the nursing home staff and our Music COOP members are so psyched!
Toledo HELP Show & Tell Recommendations
In addition to the Toledo HELP yahoo group, I find the monthly meetings to be extremely helpful. Adults need be meet face-to-face to solidfy our online relationships.
So, with the need to build a “community of homeschool friends” for our girls, and the vacancy in the Toledo HELP Meeting Coordinator…I assumed its role. I already outlined the next 12 months, with at least 4-5 extra topics to incorporate based on interest and time.
Our February Show & Tell Meeting was a success!
March’s Meeting will be:
Thursday, March 16, 2006

Toledo homeschool yahoo groups
Toledo Home Education League of Parents (HELP) yahoo group was the very first yahoo group I ever joined, and I find absolutely critical to our success as a homeschool family here in Greater Toledo, Ohio area. Click here for details. You don’t have to become a member of HELP to join.
While I’m not on as regularly as I’d like, I always know I have a group of highly successful, resourceful, and seasoned homeschool parents to advise me when I need support.
Every single question I pose is always sufficiently answered, with numerous replies to satisfy my urge “to know”. The group is diverse in their teaching styles, formats, and philosophies which assures a broad spectrum of experiences so I feel very comfortable bringing up any issue, no matter what it may be.
Two spin-off’s of Toledo HELP which we belong to are:
1. ) Music COOP - Click here for more details.
2.) Toledo HELP Culture Club
